With the simple and user-friendly interface, Odoo’s point of sale application allows the user to manage the point of sale operations efficiently. Cash control is a built-in option in Odoo POS, which allows the user to check the amount in cash box at the beginning and end of each session. As it is a default feature, there is no need for extra apps or plugins to install. In this blog, I will be describing how to set up cash control in Odoo POS.
Configuration
Go to Point of Sale -> Configuration -> Point of Sale and select the point of sale to which you need to apply cash control.
Click on the ‘Edit’ button and move to the bottom. Under the ‘Cash Control’ section, enable the ‘Cash Control’ option.
This option can also be enabled from the dashboard itself. In the point of sale dashboard, click on the ‘More’ button at the top right corner and then click ‘Settings’. Now you will be redirected to the settings page where you can set the cash control option.
Setting the opening balance in Cash Box
Once you have enabled the ‘Cash Control’ option, a new section will appear under that option where you can provide the coins or bills in the cashbox. Click on the ‘Add an item’ to add a bill or coin. You need to provide the coin/bill value and the number of coins/bills. The subtotal will be automatically updated.
We can set the opening balance before opening a session.
Based on the coins or bills we add, the opening balance will be updated automatically.
POS transactions and Cashbox updates.
Now we can open the point of sale session using the ‘Open Session’ button. Add products to the order by just clicking the products. Using the buttons on the number-pad, you can update the price, quantity, and discounts.
Suppose the customer need to pay $ 115 and he pays, $ 120, just click the validate button. The change will be recorded automatically.
Now you can exit the session by clicking on the ‘Close’ button at the top right corner and close the session using the ‘Close’ button on the dashboard.
Now you can see the summary of transactions. This is where you can take the money out. Use the ‘Take Money Out’ Button at the top to take money from the cash box.
Clicking on this button will open a new wizard where you can provide a reason and the amount you need to take.
After taking the money out, you can see that the balance is updated automatically.
Setting the closing balance in Cash Box
Now what is left is to update the closing balance. After counting the cash box, you can set the closing balance. Click on the ‘Set Closing Balance’ button at the right top. You can provide the details of coins/bills in the cash box. After setting the closing balance, validate the closing.
