User Settings

The Odoo platform offers a variety of options for setting platform users, their operational potential, and the available authorization. The Odoo system software is regarded as the top business management solution since it opens the way for methodically categorizing people according to their priorities and their permission levels, which is crucial for providing the business management team with superior visibility. Odoo also has a feature that enables users to run their businesses with the appropriate access, flexibility, and freedom and to carry out their duties in line with their respective job roles within the company. In the real-time operation of a firm, it is not reasonable to provide a lower-level employee total authority and authorization to control all elements of the organization, since this would introduce complexity and challenges in operational practice.

Realizing this, the founders of Odoo and its engineers created a hierarchical authorization level for users in the functioning, which would aid in efficient administration. Three different sorts of users will be available through this platform for the system's functioning. which are

  • Internal User
  • Public User
  • Portal user.

Internal users in Odoo are employees of corporations. It might be admin users with full access to the ERP or regular workers who work in various departments within the organization and only have access to those sections. Additionally, department leaders who have full access to their specific department's activities but do not have full access privileges to the organization are also regarded as internal users. Therefore, both workers with restricted access permissions and admin users with full access are included in this internal user group. In the first case, someone with full access to the Odoo system is considered the highest level user in the system and can perform any action, such as creating other users, configuring views and menus, changing system configuration, assigning privileges, and performing other administrative tasks. All remaining users are under their control because they have administrator capabilities on their superuser account and a knack for administering. The team leads, and business managers often come under this type of authorization.

Additionally, the Odoo platform allows for the operation of several Admin users, each of whom receives a separate authorization to fall under this category in line with the requirements. This will ensure that the associated Admin user has safe and secure management control over the team or department. Only the admin user has the ability to add new modules or update current ones. Users who are employed by the firm, excluding managers and management teams, make up the second type of internal users. These are likely to be the executives and other workers who report to the manager. The Odoo system provides a different login and log-out code of operation for these sorts of users, and it will acquire insight into each employee's performance and functioning. The same operational features for logging in and out may be used to record attendance, take time off, and understand how an employee's timesheet of operations relates to organizational functionality.

The second category of users is the Public Users, who are website visitors. Users of the portal are the third sort of user, distinct from the other user types, and are often used to grant consumers access to the Odoo portal. Portal users have restricted access to Odoo's backend. Since they normally do not have access to the back end of Odoo, they may access some sections like the customer portal, website, or other places that are visible to the public. Portal users are often used for customers, vendors, and other external entities. Without having full access to the system, they grant consumers or suppliers access to the Odoo platform. This user may access documents and do operations like as placing orders and confirming quotations, checking the supply of certain items, service availability, and so on. Additionally, the organization's responsible authority can determine what level of access should be provided to these portal users.

The three categories that were just discussed are the three types of fundamental users that Odoo enables you to administer inside the platform for carrying out different organizational functions. With its most extensive User setup options and the accessible Management menu, the Odoo platform handles all of these users quite fluidly. Now that we've covered the Users on the Odoo platform, let's go through the User menu and its many setup options in detail.
